Online Guide: ADD/ADHD
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are two conditions that can affect an individual's ability to focus on certain tasks. Both ADD and ADHD are characterized by inattentiveness, but ADHD also includes a component of overactivity or impulsivity. ADD and ADHD are commonly diagnosed during childhood. These conditions affect approximately 5 percent of school-aged children. Both conditions are more commonly diagnosed in boys than in girls. Both ADHD and ADD tend to run in families, so doctors believe there may be a genetic component to the condition.
