Understanding ASAM and Its Impact

Welcome! Here’s what you need to know about our new ASAM program, starting April 1, 2024.

What is ASAM?

ASAM stands for the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Their mission is to enhance addiction prevention and treatment through high-quality, evidence-based standards.

The ASAM Criteria help us determine the best level of care for individuals based on their specific needs. From April 1, 2024, we will be using ASAM Levels of Care to provide more tailored and effective services.

What Happened to CSTAR?

CSTAR, which stands for Comprehensive Substance Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation, has been the standard for substance use treatment in Missouri. It’s still in place, but we are integrating ASAM principles into our CSTAR programs to improve the quality of care and align with new standards.

How Will This Affect You?

  • Service Continuity: There will be no changes to how you access our services or the evaluation process.
  • Enhanced Care: The ASAM Levels of Care allow us to better match our services to your needs, improving the quality of care and expanding available options.
  • Eligibility: ASAM services are available for youth aged 9-17 and adults 18 and older. Note that youth aged 9-11 are not eligible for certain residential services.
  • Residency Requirement: You must be a Missouri resident to qualify for ASAM services.

  • Intensive Outpatient (Level 2.1)
